Theo House, New Jersey's first residential hospice
facility, offers care to individuals that have a terminal illness and do
not have a family member who can care for them at home. The Center For Hope Hospice & Palliative Care provides physical, emotional, and spiritual support to the terminally ill individual and his or her family. When the situation within the home becomes difficult for the individual and his or her family and they must seek alternative living arrangements, Theo House is the option of choice for Hospice care.
Theo House staff includes physicians, nurses, social workers, spiritual counselors, volunteers, home health aides, and homemakers.
The facility is staffed twenty-four hours a day, 7 days a week. A resident
can choose to remain under the medical care of his or her own physician or
retain the service of the hospice staff physician.
The Center For Hope Hospice & Palliative Care receives reimbursement from Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurances, and many HMOs. If the resident
does not have financial resources or adequate insurance coverage, a sliding scale method of payment
for room and board will be arranged. Services are not denied due to a resident's inability to pay. These costs are supplemented by State and County grants, donations, memorials, and fund raising efforts.

The Benefits For The Resident and Family
When there is nowhere else to turn, and the inevitable becomes a reality, the ability to cope, to choose, and to accept becomes paramount. At the time of admission and throughout the time that an individual resides at Theo House, the staff assists the resident in dealing with his or her illness as the disease progresses. Each resident is allowed to make
informed decisions and actively participate in the plan of care. Dignity,
independence, and self-esteem are vital components of the residential program at Theo House.
Pain management techniques are implemented to help the resident remain pain free. With pain under control, the resident and family are better able to focus on issues of emotional importance together. Individual and family counseling is provided to assist the family in coping with the many challenges associated with a terminal illness.
